20/20 interview with Dugard to air July 8

On June 10, 1991, the South Lake Tahoe and Meyers communities went into shock when 11-year-old Jaycee Lee Dugard was abducted as she walked to a local school bus stop. She remained missing for 18 years, a long nightmare for her family, her friends, and the town that grew to love her, even if they didn’t know her. Then, dreams were answered on August 26, 2009 when she was discovered due to the instincts of two U.C. Berkeley Campus Officers.
Dugard will be featured on a special edition of the ABC news show, 20/20, on Friday, July 8. Diane Sawyer sits down with her, five years after their first sit down following the miraculous rescue.
On that show, Dugard will discuss how she has adjusted to her new life, and integrated back into society, all which is revealed in her new memoir, “Freedom: My Book of Firsts.” This, her second book, will be released on Tuesday, July 12 by Simon and Schuster.
On June 10, 2016, the El Dorado County District Attorney’s office released part 1 of a four-part story about Dugard’s kidnapping.
Dugard was originally interviewed by Sawyer in 2011. At that time, she talked about her years in captivity for the first time on the eve of the release of her first memoir “A Stolen Life.”
