SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A recent gift from a generous community donor is making it possible for more local children to get outside, explore, and connect with wildlife this summer through Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC) programs.

LTWC is now offering a limited number of scholarships for its remaining 2026 Adventure Camps, providing hands-on wildlife and environmental education opportunities for families in the region.

Scholarships are available starting with next week’s Wild About Bears camp and continuing through the final camp sessions in mid-August. Families may apply for any remaining camp with available space LTWC’s adventure camps are designed for children ages 6–12 and introduce them to the wildlife and ecosystems of the Lake Tahoe Basin. Each week has a different theme, including Avian Adventure, Junior Wildlife Biologist, and Bugs & Beyond. Campers spend their days outdoors exploring through hikes, creeks, wildlife education, science activities, games, and hands-on projects that help build curiosity and confidence in the natural world.

“Every child deserves the chance to connect with our local flora and fauna,” said Catherine Mendez, executive director of Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care. “These immersive camps bring wildlife education to life, inspiring wonder, stewardship, and a lasting connection to the natural world. With this donor’s support, we can offer more scholarships and welcome more local families into these experiences.”

Scholarships are limited and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis while funding remains available.

Families interested in camp or scholarship opportunities are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

For nearly 50 years, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care has rescued, rehabilitated, and released orphaned and injured wildlife throughout the Lake Tahoe region. Through its education programs and youth camps, LTWC works to inspire a deeper understanding of local wildlife and foster the next generation of conservationists.
