DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. – A Douglas County homeowner returned from a three-week vacation to find that someone had been unlawfully occupying his home located in the Lake Tahoe portion of the county. Food and beverage had been consumed in the home, personal property had been disturbed, and evidence that someone had been living in the home.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is requesting assistance in identifying a person of interest in the active residential burglary investigation.
When the homeowner returned on June 5, 2026, he also found that his birth certificate was missing.
During the investigation, deputies recovered a wallet containing a Visa debit card issued to Clarence Zillman, along with a Safeway receipt for the purchase of two packs of Camel cigarettes. Investigators later obtained surveillance video from the Safeway store at the Round Hill Shopping Center that captured the individual who made the purchase associated with the recovered receipt.
The person of interest who is pictured in the photo below was wearing a shirt and hat that the victim identified as his own. The shirt was later recovered inside the residence, while the hat remains missing. Investigators believe the receipt recovered from the residence is linked to the transaction depicted in the surveillance video.
Anyone who recognizes the individual in the attached photograph or has information related to this investigation is asked to contact DCSO Investigator JT Davis at the Stateline Office at 775-586-7253.
This investigation remains active.
