Join the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center for a fascinating talk by freshwater ecologist Dr. Catherine O’Reilly on August 13. She will be exploring how long-term monitoring, satellite data, and global synthesis are transforming our understanding of climate change impacts on freshwater lakes. Drawing on her groundbreaking research at Lake Tanganyika, Dr. O’Reilly will show how shifts in lake temperature, clarity, and productivity reflect global climatic trends. Attendees will learn how lakes serve as climate sentinels and how communities can leverage lake data, citizen science, and international collaboration to protect freshwater resources.
About the Speaker
Catherine O’Reilly, Ph.D., is the Director of the Large Lakes Observatory and a professor at the University of Minnesota Duluth. A globally recognized aquatic ecologist and former IPCC lead author, she focuses her research on how freshwater ecosystems respond to climate change, integrating field research, satellite data, and global monitoring networks.
The evening will begin with a TERC Summer Intern Poster Session from 4:00–6:00 p.m. on the Granlibakken Mountain Deck, where summer interns will share their summer research. Come learn about the awesome research our interns have been working on this summer!
