SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A 36-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Sunday morning for lowering the American flag at the El Dorado County Government Center on Johnson Blvd.
A sergeant with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office notified the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) that a male had lowered the flag to the ground in between the police station and sheriff’s office. They said the male was attempting to light the flag on fire.
SLTPD officers determined the suspect had just been released from the jail after being arrested on Saturday by SLTPD for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Public Intoxication after he was reported to have been shooting arrows at the Y.
In a social media post, SLTPD said they have arrested the male, Wilber Geovany Orejel-Noguera, six times since April 2026 for charges including Possession of Narcotics, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, being Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance, and Resisting Arrest.
Orejel-Noguera was arrested Sunday and booked back into the El Dorado County Jail for felony Attempted Arson, a charge that comes with a $100,000 bail hold.
