With higher traffic volume in Reno and the Tahoe Basin, construction on roads around Lake Tahoe will be on hold between Friday, July 29 and Monday, August 8. This is due to Hot August Nights.
Beginning August 8, drivers can expect three work zones, and up to 30-minute delay times. Traffic control supervisors will be monitoring flow and delay times.
All work is weather and temperature permitting, and subject to change.
SR-28 NEAR MEMORIAL POINT LOOKOUT:
Traffic control on SR-28 north of the Memorial Point lookout begins Monday, August 8. Crews will be staging equipment and preparing for soil nailing operations at the aging timber wall along SR-28.
Traffic will be reduced to a single lane and controlled by an automated temporary traffic signal. Drivers will be required to stop on a red light to let opposing traffic drive safely through the work zone.
Working hours are nights, Sunday – Thursday 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. *Night work will not begin until Sunday, August 14.
During soil nailing, the East Shore Trail will be inaccessible in the construction area, at the largest bridge, between 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Nightly trail closure due to construction will only occur Sundays – Thursdays during this timeframe.
MARLETTE CREEK (SR-28):
Working hours are Monday – Fridays, daytime only, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (noon on Fridays). Traffic will be reduced to a single lane and controlled by flaggers.
