TAHOE CITY, Calif. – The Sierra State Parks Foundation invites the community to peer beneath the surface of our alpine waters with its monthly speaker series, “Tahoe Talks on the Water.” This upcoming event features Clean Up The Lake discussing the hidden world of submerged litter, lost history, and emerging environmental challenges during a scenic sunset cruise aboard the iconic paddleboat, the Tahoe Gal.
Enjoy an evening of community, conservation, and education on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, departing from Tahoe City. This month’s presentation features Jenny Uvira, Programs Manager at Clean Up The Lake. As an environmental leader with a background in engineering, Jenny will share an inside look at large-scale underwater cleanup efforts and the growing threat of aquatic invasive species.
Attendees will gain a rare perspective on what lies unseen in our freshwater systems and discover how field data is being used to inform critical environmental protection. Jenny will highlight how the nonprofit has expanded its scuba-based cleanups and invasive species surveys beyond Lake Tahoe into high-elevation alpine lakes, including the Mammoth Lakes Basin, connecting science and storytelling to safeguard these precious ecosystems.
“We are thrilled to bring the community together with an underwater conservation leader for an evening that highlights how local action protects the Tahoe Basin,” said Michael Myers, executive director of the Sierra State Parks Foundation. “It’s a unique opportunity to learn about cutting-edge conservation management while directly supporting our state parks.”
Proceeds from the series benefit the Sierra State Parks Foundation, supporting the preservation and restoration of Lake Tahoe’s California State Parks.
Reservations are required as seating is strictly limited. Tickets are $60 per person; dinner menu with items ranging from $12 to $25, as well as a cash bar, will be available. It is highly recommended that guests arrive at 5:30 pm, as the boat leaves sharply at 6 pm! The boat is predicted to return to the docks at 8:30 pm.
