DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. – The man accused of driving under the influence on the morning of March 20, 2025, and hitting a vehicle on US50 at Glenbrook, killing the passenger, is back in jail. Stephen Pawlowski had bailed out of jail but was arrested on July 12 for violating the conditions of release.
Brian Alonso Vazquez Gonzalez, a 24-year-old man from Carson City, died in the crash. Also in the westbound 2023 Subaru Crosstrek was his daughter and partner. They did not sustain severe injuries. Brian grew up in South Lake Tahoe.
Pawlowski was transported to the hospital after the crash with non-life-threatening injuries, and he was arrested.
During the suspect’s first appearance in Tahoe Justice Court on May 27, Pawlowski appeared remotely with his lawyer, Alexandra Dyer, in court. They had expected a bail of $500,000, but after Judge Michael Johnson heard that Pawlowski was prohibited from drinking by Washoe County twice in the days before the fatal collision, on March 17 and 18, he imposed $1,000,000 cash bail or a $2,000,000 bond.
Pawlowski bailed out, but he didn’t remain free long. He is in the Douglas County Jail on a “no bail” hold. He was originally scheduled for court on July 24, but due to a pending matter in District Court, he won’t be back at Tahoe Justice Court until the District Court matter is resolved. At this time, the next local court date is unknown.
