TAHOE CITY, Calif. – Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) has announced that at its 22nd annual Skate the Lake presented by LivOn Labs, saw the most participants in the event’s history, coming in at a total of 190. In total, this beloved Lake Tahoe event raised over $72,000 (and counting) for B4BC’s breast cancer education, prevention and survivorship programs. With this year also marking B4BC’s 30th anniversary, Skate the Lake added another milestone to this special year and showcased B4BC’s increasing impact.
The event weekend began with a Community Celebration at Commons Beach on Saturday, Aug. 1st, where beachgoers and participants were invited to drop by, register for Skate the Lake, learn about early detection and enjoy the day’s festivities. Kellee Rich hosted a live yoga session to help attendees unwind, followed by live performances from local Tahoe musicians including Gamble, The E Regulars, GBrown Sound, Gun Show, Riley Reager and Still Above Dirt. 101.5 KTKE hosted a live broadcast of the event throughout the day to give listeners a recap.
Guests also enjoyed delicious cool beverages from Capacity Brewing, Firestone Walker, June Shine and Seaborn Cocktails, paired with yummy barbecue from Rub Shack. Presenting sponsor LivOn Labs generously provided Vitamin C supplement samples to help boost immunity and energy. Attendees also had the chance to win incredible partner prizes during raffles and a silent auction. It was a lively day, building excitement for Skate the Lake the next day.
Skate the Lake began at the top of the morning on Sunday, with participants loading in at Sugar Pine Point State Park to grab pink swag, connect with fellow riders, and get ready to rock and roll. Participant ages ranged from six years old to over 65 years old, with a variety of skaters, bikers and rollers.
As riders took off, the day was filled with cheers, encouragement and the breeze off the waters of Lake Tahoe. It was a challenging ride, but participants channeled that energy into resilience and empathy for loved ones impacted by breast cancer.
Riders refueled at hydration stops along the way, with electrolytes from Redmond Re-Lyte, snacks, and sunscreen from Sun Bum for UV protection. Everyone stopped for lunch at The Auld Dubliner in Palisades Tahoe, where they had the opportunity to rest and additional participants who wanted to ride a shorter route could drop in for the final eight miles.
From there, the collective group took off for the last leg of the course, crossing the finish line at Commons Beach where they were met with applause and ovation for this impressive accomplishment. Raffles and awards followed, with prizing for the top three individual and team fundraisers.
“Each year, we are honored by how much this event grows. Our mission is to spread word on early detection and breast cancer prevention, and we are gratified to increase our reach year after year. With this year marking 30 years of B4BC, we are proud to have built a strong legacy that continues to touch the lives of as many people as possible,” said Lisa Hudson. B4BC President and Co-Founder.
