Parking rates for Heavenly Village retailers wishing to validate customer’s tickets were lowered from $1.50 per hour to $1 per hour in Tuesday’s South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting. The movie theater validations were lowered from four hours to three hours as well.
South Lake Tahoe City staff presented rate change suggestions for the city owned parking garage at the Heavenly Village during the meeting. The operating revenue that the garage derives comes from hourly usage, which constitutes the majority of revenue, and the money earned by the sale of weekly, monthly and seasonal passes as well as offering validations for Heavenly Village merchants.
To encourage more retailers to offer validated parking the council voted on the rate change. There are only two current retailers, one of which is the movie theater, that offer validation. The movie theater gets a better rate (35 cents per hour) than other retailers because that is what was agreed on in the original contract.
Mayor Hal Cole and the other council members advised staff to look into ways of advertising the merchants who offer validation on signage inside the parking garage. They felt this would encourage more garage use and more shopping in the Village.
Winter parking passes are now $125/month or $400 per season, and annual passes are currently offered at $600 per year.
The motion to adopt the resolution of amending rates in the garage passed unanimously, 5-0.
