South Lake Tahoe Residents,
My name is Michelle Elaine Davis, and I am running to be your next elected City Clerk.
For the past three years, I have had the privilege of serving as South Lake Tahoe’s Assistant City Clerk. During this time, I have attended professional training courses, conducted research on elections, studied California Public Records Act requirements, and gained hands-on experience with many of the important responsibilities managed by the City Clerk’s Office. I have also built strong professional relationships with City Clerks in other municipalities to continue learning best practices and prepare myself for this role.
I hold the Certified Municipal Clerk designation, which reflects a two-year professional training program and demonstrates my commitment to the municipal clerk profession. I am also a commissioned notary public.
My interest in municipal government grew during college. I attended California State University, Chico, where I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Criminal Justice. During my time in college, I also served as the student Vice President of the university.
It is my dream to serve South Lake Tahoe because of the support, compassion, and love I have felt from this community. When my uncle, a long-time South Lake Tahoe resident tragically passed away, the South Lake Tahoe community came together to support my family during an incredibly difficult time. Whether elected or not, I want to be someone in this community who helps others in need, just as this community has helped me.
Local volunteering is one of my highest values. I serve on the Executive Board for the Lake Tahoe Historical Society as the Secretary, am a board member of Encompass Youth, a nonprofit that provides navigational support to the youth in our community, and have also been a donor to the Tahoe Women’s Community Fund.
The City Clerk serves as an important connection between residents and City Hall. One of my main goals as City Clerk is to help residents feel encouraged and empowered to participate in local government, whether by providing public comment during City Council or Commission meetings, submitting public records requests to learn more about City projects, or simply visiting City Hall to get to know the City Clerk’s Office better. I believe strengthening the relationship between residents and City Hall is essential to building greater trust in local government.
Another goal I have as City Clerk is to increase accessibility in City Council and Commission meetings. I was born with mild cerebral palsy, so I understand the importance of accommodations and ensuring that all residents feel able to participate in the City’s public meetings. All community members have the right to equal access and meaningful participation in local government.
If you have any questions about my campaign, or if you would simply like to chat and get to know me better, please feel free to reach out. I would love the opportunity to meet with as many community members as possible.
Thank you for your consideration in voting for me as City Clerk. I look forward to continuing conversations about the City Clerk’s Office and how we can make local government more accessible, welcoming, and transparent for all South Lake Tahoe residents.
Sincerely,
Michelle Elaine Davis
