UPDATE: A lightning strike in Douglas County took down power in the Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe, from Glenbrook to Meyers, and in Alpine County. Since Liberty gets much of its power from the NV Energy lines, the resulting transformer issue left thousands without power for a few hours Thursday.
About 14,000 NV Energy and 28,000 Liberty customers were affected.
When the outage affecting our South Lake Tahoe and Markleeville communities occurred, Liberty jumped into action to inspect the transmission lines struck by lightning with NV Energy. The two agencies worked together to safely inspect and restore service. Lines must be inspected so they can be re-energized safely.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – NV Energy and Liberty Utilities are reporting thousands of people without power.
The cause of the outage is under investigation and updates will be provided as they are available.
This outage is an upstream transmission problem from NV Energy where a transformer went out.
