Dear Editor: It is a shame that the South Lake Tahoe City Council has turned into a non-supportive group that does not work to protect local neighborhoods (and our Democracy).  They abandoned locals who voted, and won by a majority, for Measure T to keep neighborhoods free of tourist issues.

The Tahoe Neighborhoods Group has stepped up and replaced the City with an appeal and is waiting for a court date.  Ironically, the Tahoe Neighborhoods Group’s appeal has halted a motion by the attorney for the group that challenged Measure T, to collect fees of $1,289,000 from the city of South Lake Tahoe.

The current Council has shown poor judgment and a lack of support for locals. When “We the people” vote, it must be supported by the City Council we elected.

This has the appearance of a group of people who support developers, investors and others just interested in money.  Greed destroys communities, and we will not stand by and let this happen.  We need new proactive, supportive people to represent us and do the right thing. The definition of a City Council: It “Represents the interests of its residents/advocates for its constituents, and operates openly and transparently.”
