SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The South Tahoe High Vikings football team will be traveling to the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) on Saturday, August 22 for a 10 a.m. game on Mackay Field against Wooster High.

Eight teams were selected to play at UNR:

  • Game 1: 10:00 a.m. – South Tahoe vs Wooster
  • Game 2: 1:00 p.m. – McQueen vs Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon
  • Game 3: 4:00 p.m. – North Valleys vs Lowry
  • Game 4: 7:00 p.m. – Carson vs Spanish Springs

Tickets are $14 for adults, $8 for students. They can be purchased HERE.

South Tahoe High Athletic Director Kevin Hennessee said it was a great honor to be one of only eight varsity teams selected to play on Mackay Field this year.

The Vikings are 1-0 on the season. They beat North Valleys last week in a non-conference game at home, 20-14. The Wooster Colts go into Saturday’s challenge with a 0-1 record after their 45-0 non-league loss to Dayton last weekend.

There are two teams for the Vikings this year, junior varsity and varsity. Freshmen and sophomore players will be on the JV team according to Coach Adam Fountain. Fountain and his assistant coaches Danny Stoltz, Pat Fountain, and Robby Canny III, have been working with the 30 players in preparing for the season ahead.

Coach Adam Fountain, a 4th year coach, played for the Vikings, graduating STHS in 2004. He went on to play linebacker at Humboldt State University, starting for three of those years, then moved back to Tahoe to coach. He is also the school’s security officer.

The offense: QB Jonah Benavides, FB Conner Hennessee, Kicker Tyler Skotvold, receivers Spencer Chen, Jake Hennessee, Dane Richie, Tyg Garcia, with Tyler George, Angel Mendoza, Danny Aguila, Aeron Pettus and Erick Burkett on the line.

The defense: Keegan Nichols, Malachi Harvey, Erik Burkett, Conner Hennessee, Dane Richie, Jake Hennessee, Eli Minshew, Max McLean, Cobin Brown, Stony Chavarri and Tyg Garcia.
