The South Lake Tahoe City Council is holding a Cannabis Workshop on Tuesday, August 29 at 5:00 p.m. in their chambers at the Lake Tahoe Airport.

They decided to hold the meeting during the evening hours instead of their normal 9:00 a.m. meeting time in hopes more citizens would attend and speak.

No sales of cannabis are currently allowed in California outside of medical marijuana dispensaries. The state is finalizing their regulations and the City wants to be prepared as those are slated to start January 1, 2018.

Even though possession of one ounce or less of marijuana is legal in California, nothing in the law says a community has to allow sales. They can be banned as Douglas County and Carson City have done with sales now allowed in Nevada. Or, a municipality can restrict where sales can occur, or set other guidelines.

The City wants to hear from everyone, all sides of the table, so participation is encouraged.

The Council Chambers are located at 1901 Airport Road in South Lake Tahoe.
