UPDATE: The power is now estimated to be restored by 1 a.m.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Power is currently out to an area of South Lake Tahoe after a vehicle crashed into a power pole on Black Bart Avenue Sunday afternoon. Liberty emergency crews are on their way and should arrive around 5:30 p.m.
A vehicle traveling northbound on Black Bart hit the power pole between both ends of Hank Monk Avenue. The car spun around and ended up facing southbound. The driver had a minor injury and did not need medical attention from first responders.
The California Highway Patrol, Lake Valley Fire and South Lake Tahoe Police Community Service officers are on the scene. The road is closed in the area of the crash, and a detour is available.
This is a developing story, and no more information is available at this time. Currently, 3,072 customers are without electricity and Liberty estimates it will be restored by 7:20 p.m., though they are not on scene as of 5 p.m.
Another crash happened about 100 yards away earlier this week. Many residents in the area are asking El Dorado County to put stop signs in on Black Bart Avenue since the 25 mph speed limit hasn’t ended the collisions.
