LAKE TAHOE, Nev. – Total Sports Consulting in partnership with Caesars Entertainment announced Monday the inaugural Caesars Lake Tahoe Classic, a premier opening-week college basketball showcase taking place Sunday, November 8, 2026, at Tahoe Blue Event Center in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. The event will feature four marquee matchups, three men’s teams and one women’s team. USC will be taking on Wichita State, Nevada will face Saint Mary’s, Houston will meet the University of California, and the University of California Women’s Basketball team will take on San Francisco Women’s Basketball, bringing eight Division I programs to Lake Tahoe for a full day of college basketball.
Set against the backdrop of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada, the Caesars Lake Tahoe Classic combines elite college basketball with one of the nation’s premier year-round destinations. The event is expected to attract fans, alumni, donors and supporters from across the country while continuing to establish Lake Tahoe as an emerging destination for nationally televised collegiate sporting events.
Tickets for the 2026 Caesars Lake Tahoe Classic go on sale Wednesday, September 2, through Ticketmaster and The Avari Box Office at the Tahoe Blue Event Center. The event will feature two separate sessions, with fans able to purchase tickets to either individual session or take advantage of a discounted two-session package providing access to all four games. Premium courtside seating, suites, hospitality experiences and group ticket packages will also be available.

“We are excited to play in the Lake Tahoe Classic and face a school like California with its great tradition and a coach like Mark Madsen.” Five student-athletes, including senior forward Joseph Tugler, return to lead the Cougars under Head Coach Kelvin Sampson for the 2026-27 season. A year ago, the Cougars posted their fifth straight 30-win season to tie the NCAA Division I record, advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 or farther for the seventh consecutive season (the nation’s longest active streak) and finished among their conference Top-Two leaders for the ninth straight season. Tugler was named a Naismith National Defensive Player of the Year finalist for the second straight year and will be joined by junior guard Mercy Miller, sophomore forward Chase McCarty, sophomore guard Kordel Jefferson and redshirt freshman guard Bryce Jackson as leaders on this year’s team. That veteran group will be joined by a nine-man signing class this year, including freshman center Arafan Diané, the nation’s #1 center a year ago. With his signing, Houston welcomed the country’s top center for the second straight season after the departure of Chris Cenac Jr.
Heading into a season with high expectations, the Trojans look to improve upon last year’s 18-14 campaign and aim for the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance under third-year head coach Eric Musselman. Former five-star recruit Alijah Arenas, senior guard Rodney Rice and junior forward Jacob Cofie give the Trojans three starting-caliber returners from a season ago, while the 11 newcomers give USC depth and positional size. USC welcomes three McDonald’s All-Americans — Christian Collins, Adonis Ratliff and Darius Ratliff — in the nation’s No. 7 recruiting class, per ESPN, while the six-man transfer portal class ranks as high as No. 4 in the nation, per On3.
Under the direction of head coach Mark Madsen for the fourth season, Cal is coming off a strong 2025-26 campaign in which the Bears recorded the most wins in a season (22) since 2016 and their first postseason win since 2014. Last season’s squad also notched eight games with 90-plus points scored and had five players ranked in top-100 national statistical categories. This season’s Bear squad features forward Lee Dort, a returning starter in the paint, along with an all-conference honoree in transfer guard Michael Cooper. In all, Cal has nine players back, with nine newcomers added for 2026-27.
The 2026–27 Nevada men’s basketball team brings back a strong core of experienced players while adding new talent to the Wolf Pack roster. Returning players include Elijah Price, Vaughn Weems, Peyton White, and Myles Walker, while newcomers Simon Majok, Styles Phipps, TJ Coulter, Keyon Kensie Jr., Peter Bandelj, and Cedric Lath add size and depth to the team. The Pack roster is completed by four freshmen: Hudson Lucas, Kade Snyder, SJ Madison, and John Mattingly. With a mix of veteran leadership, emerging young players, and new additions, Nevada enters the season looking to build on last year’s 24–13 campaign, which saw the Wolf Pack advance to the NIT quarterfinals.
Currently riding a program record five consecutive NCAA Tournament Berths, Saint Mary’s Men’s Basketball enters a new era in 2026-27, with former standout point guard and longtime assistant Mickey McConnell taking over the head coaching reins. McConnell retained six student-athletes from last year’s squad, headlined by first team All-West Coast Conference point guard Josh Dent. Supplementing the group of six returners are ten newcomers, including a pair of transfers with NCAA Tournament experience (Vangelis Zougris and Thomas Ndong) and the program’s first McDonald’s All-American, true freshman Darius Bivins.
Wichita State returns 10 players from a 24-win team that advanced to the NIT quarterfinals in 2025-26. After a 2-3 start in American Conference play, the Shockers finished 11-2, including a seven-game winning streak, to secure the No. 2 seed in the conference championship. Reigning American Conference Sixth Man of the Year Will Berg anchors a veteran group alongside returning wings Dillon Battie and TJ Williams, while incoming transfers Jordan Frison and Jahari Long add experience in the backcourt. Head Coach Paul Mills enters his fourth season at Wichita State after recording 58 wins, the second-most by a Shocker head coach through his first three seasons. “We are incredibly excited to be part of the inaugural Lake Tahoe Classic. Under Head Coach Charmin Smith, who is entering her eighth season at the helm, Cal returns seven players from last season’s roster, including four of the team’s top five leading scorers. Among the returners is All-ACC Second Team selection Lulu Twidale, who last season set program records for both single-season and career 3-pointers, finished 5th in the NCAA in triples, and will enter the 2026-27 season ranked second in the country for career 3-pointers. The Golden Bears finished the 2025–26 season with an overall record of 21–15, marking the team’s third consecutive winning season, while advancing to the quarterfinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT).
San Francisco enters the 2026-27 season with a revamped, international roster under Head Coach Molly Goodenbour, who begins her 11th season leading the Dons. USF’s roster features a mix of returning talent and experienced newcomers, including transfers Olivia Williams from UC Irvine, Keiryn McGuff from Akron/Bowling Green, Jayda Queeley from Pittsburgh, Lucía Yenes from New Mexico State and Candy Edokpaigbe from Seattle U. The Dons also feature a strong international presence, with players from France, Spain, Sweden, Australia, Taiwan, Slovakia, Italy and Poland joining the program.
