As the rising cost of everyday necessities continues to strain household budgets, many Lake Tahoe South Shore residents are struggling to provide healthy food for themselves and their families.

Two years ago, Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal served an average of 104 dinner guests at the late-afternoon meal at St. Theresa’s Grace Hall. Over the last six months, that average has risen to 130 dinner guests, with attendees also taking home bags of nutritious food for meals later in the week.  On Monday, August 24, Bread & Broth served 163 dinner guests at its Monday Meal, setting a new record for the program.

Thanks to donations and Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsorships by local individuals, families, organizations, and businesses, Bread & Broth has been able to meet this continuing and increasing demand for meal and food assistance.

Vail’s local ski resorts, Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort, have been B&B’s most frequent Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsors, hosting twelve sponsorships annually. The $350 AAD sponsorship fee is funded by Vail through its EpicPromise Grant program, which supports many nonprofits in the Lake Tahoe South Shore community.

Hosting the August 24 Monday Meal was Heavenly Mountain Resort, represented by Paul Bergeron, Molly Disbrow, Ashley Kiger, Adriann Kremer, and Katie Shanks. These outstanding Adopt A Day crew members played an integral role in setting up the dinner and food giveaway service, staffing the serving line, and helping with cleanup after the historic number of dinner guests had been served.

“It was a great and fun experience to help serve our community with the Bread & Broth volunteer team,” shared Katie. “The Bread & Broth program is so incredible, from the dinner served to the fresh veggies and fruit bags for the guests to take home. Heavenly team members are so happy to be a part of this experience and our community.”

Bread & Broth is extremely fortunate to have the support of Heavenly and Kirkwood Resort team members and the generosity of the Vail EpicPromise Grant program. As an all-volunteer organization, Bread & Broth relies on community donations, sponsorships, and volunteers to help ease hunger for neighbors who are struggling. The impact on our fellow neighbors is immeasurable.
