TRUCKEE, Calif. – The Floriston Fire is a fast-moving wildfire burning near Interstate 80 and Floriston, nine miles northeast of Truckee. The fire has led authorities to close westbound lanes of the highway at the Nevada state line.
The wildfire broke out around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in the Truckee River Canyon. Wind gusts of up to 20 mph have fueled the fire. Calfire says the fire quickly grew from 20 mph to 297 acres, and is showing a dangerous rate of speed and spotting. This information is current as of 1 p.m.
There are several aircraft in the area fighting the fire, and several agencies have responded.
Evacuation orders and warnings are in place for some areas of Nevada County.
