Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle on Highway 50
A 71-year-old Ohio woman is in critical condition in the ICU unit of Renown Medical Center, where she was taken by helicopter late Saturday night after being struck by a Dodge Durango on US Highway 50. On Saturday, September 15th at about 11:47pm, Betty Petrick was pulling a wheeled suitcase while attempting to walk across US Highway 50 outside of a crosswalk. She was wearing blue jeans and a light colored blouse. From the North side of Highway 50, Petrick walked South and West, an approximate 45 degree angle away from the area of Mc P’s pub and was able to cross both westbound travel lanes. After crossing the center turn lane she stepped in front of the Dodge Durango driven in the #1 eastbound lane by 42-year-old Ronald Aubry of Magalia, California. The impact launched Petrick 20-30 feet in front of the vehicle, which skidded to a stop. Ms. Petrick sustained serious injuries. Her suitcase was lodged under the vehicle. The investigation reveals that the Durango was traveling at or below the posted speed limit of 35mph in this area. Aubrey was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Petrick has been found at fault in the collision for crossing outside of a crosswalk and violating the right of way of the Dodge Durango. No citations have been issued.
If anyone witnessed this collision, they are encouraged to call investigating officer John Spaeth at 530-542-6100 in reference to case number 1209-1562.
