Last Friday, I was delighted to reconnect with Greg & Rachel Carlson, owners of Black Bear Lodge. It had been a minute, suddenly it’s 8 years later since they bought the property, and there are two little girl offspring running amok. They have since acquired the former Deerfield Lodge next door, and now they have 31 rooms, including 4 cabins. The beautiful back event space is called the Rubicon Lawn, perfect for weddings, tastings, and gatherings, plus there’s an inviting indoor event space that also showcases local art. Last Friday was a special tasting event of Jacquart French Champagnes; they popped open three gorgeous varietals, oh, and Greg safely and soberly sabered off the top of my favorite, the Mosaïque Brut. With generous pours by Eva Thesmier and John Matthews, new friendships were made by all.
This Friday’s Wine Tasting will be extra special as well. They will start with a nice French bubble, followed by wines from Oregon and Washington. Shhhh, secret/not a secret, the Syrah ranked #6 on Wine Spectator’s Top 100. This will be their last tasting event of the summer, so come on in and enjoy the festivity. The staff is stellar, so very welcoming.
Festively Yours, Michelle Gomez, Tahoe Art League
