The California Highway Patrol today released the name of the South Lake Tahoe woman who died in Sunday’s motorcycle crash in Hope Valley.

Charleen R. Blackburn, 64, was riding her Harley Davidson westbound on SR-88 and slowing at the junction with SR-89 at 4:48 p.m. on September 17. She was making a left turn onto southbound SR-89. At the same time, a 58-year-old woman from Gardnerville, Nevada was traveling eastbound on SR-88 in her Buick La Sabre, and approaching the same intersection at approximately 50-55 mph.

According the CHP, Blackburn failed to yield the right away to the driver and made a left turn across the eastbound lane directly in front of the car. That driver immediately applied her brakes but did not have the time or distance to stop before hitting the motorcycle.

The South Lake Tahoe woman was thrown from her Harley and came to rest in the westbound lane of SR-88. She sustained major injuries and was care flighted to Renown but died either on flight or upon arrival according to CHP.
