The City is now accepting applications for the Community Benefit Grant Program, a broader version of the former Cannabis Revenues Grant Program.
The program is currently open and will provide $372,000 in funding to eligible public agencies and nonprofit organizations located in or providing services within the South Lake Tahoe city limits. Individual grant awards will range from $5,000 to $30,000.
Funding is available in the following four categories:

At its June 16 Council Meeting, the South Lake Tahoe City Council approved an expanded grant framework that removes the prior requirement for projects to mitigate impacts associated with the cannabis industry. This change broadens program eligibility and enables the City to support a wider range of community-serving programs and projects. The new name, Community Benefit Grant Program, more clearly reflects the program’s purpose of reinvesting into services and initiatives that benefit the South Lake Tahoe Community. The 2026 funding categories were selected and may change annually.
“The Community Benefit Grant Program is an opportunity for the City to invest in the organizations and services that help meet a broad range of needs in our community,” said Hilary Roverud, city manager. “By expanding eligibility, the City can support more local efforts that strengthen the health, well-being, and safety of South Lake Tahoe residents .”
The City will continue to allocate 50 percent of the previous year’s cannabis revenue to the grant program. Cannabis businesses fund the program by remitting a monthly Community Benefit Fee to the City equal to 3 percent of their gross monthly receipts, which will help support Youth Programs, Basic Needs, Mental Health and Substance Abuse, and Wildland Urban Interface and Natural Environment Management in 2026.
Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, October 6, at 11:59pm.
