WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. – For the sixth time in two months, a fire has broken out in the hills above Reno, Nev. On Friday, October 2, at 10:45 a.m., crews reported the Bull Fire north of Verdi and east of Dog Valley near the California-Nevada border. Winds fanned the flames quickly and by 4:15 p.m., the fire was 2,500 acres in size.
Good news for firefighters: the current northeast direction of winds is pushing the fire into last month’s Hawk Fire burn scar.
Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District said there are eight firefighting aircraft currently on the fire, and helicopters that can operate at night will be at the Bull Fire tonight.
There are no mandatory evacuations at this time.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
