ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. – Despite a difficult time for Zephyr Cove Elementary School (ZCES), the community is showing that its support for students remains strong. Local businesses have stepped up to donate raffle prizes for the upcoming Trunk or Treat fundraiser, helping raise money for the fifth-grade overnight camp field trip planned for June.

Businesses including Edgewood Tahoe, Bally’s Lake Tahoe, Clyde’s Coffee, Adventure Coffee, Azul, Base Camp, Mott Canyon, and Audibles have generously contributed to the raffle, demonstrating their commitment to the students and the community.

Fundraising has been especially challenging for ZCES following the recent Parents’ Club embezzlement scandal, which has understandably raised concerns and questions about fundraising and the handling of money. Despite these challenges, the school community remains focused on what matters most: giving students opportunities to learn, grow, and make lasting memories.

“We are incredibly proud and grateful that our community continues to support our Mighty Cubs, even during such a difficult time,” said those organizing the fundraiser. “Our students should not have to miss out on opportunities because of one person’s decisions. This fundraiser is for the kids, and every dollar raised will help support their fifth-grade overnight camp experience in June.”

The Trunk or Treat event will take place at ZCES on Friday, October 16, at 5:00 p.m. Admission is $5 per child, while adults enter for free. Raffle tickets will also be available for five tickets for $20, giving families a chance to win donated prizes while supporting the fifth-grade class.

The event is about more than fundraising. It is an opportunity for families, local businesses, and community members to come together and show students that they are supported and valued. While concerns surrounding the Parents Club have understandably affected confidence in fundraising, organizers hope the community will recognize that this effort is centered on the students and their future experiences.

The generosity of local businesses and continued support from families serve as a reminder of what makes a community strong: people coming together for a shared purpose, even when times are difficult.

ZCES is proud of its Mighty Cubs and grateful to everyone helping make this event possible. With the community’s support, the goal is to ensure that the fifth graders can enjoy their overnight camp trip in June and create memories that will last long after their elementary school years are over.
