The Republican Women of California – South Lake Tahoe hosted a forum for its members recently to study several of the propositions on the upcoming ballot and to discuss Measure S in more detail.
The following Propositions and Measure S were discussed. A lively discussion occurred.
Measure S: Vote “NO”
A “NO” vote is recommended on this measure. Here’s why:
- This measure is NOT about supporting firefighters or any first responders. It is giving over $350 million to Marshall Hospital in Placerville to use SLT tax dollars as they deem fit. There is no oversight.
- While most of us support our fire departments and first responders, this is an ill-conceived and unfair tax measure with no or very little benefit to the taxpayers of South Lake Tahoe.
- This measure would increase the sales tax in SLT from 8.75% to 9.125%. This will hurt small businesses and everyone’s pocketbook. Now is not the time for new taxes.
- South Lake Tahoe should not be paying for Marshall Hospital’s 30-year bond.
