On Monday, October 19, Bread & Broth was honored and grateful to have the South Lake Tahoe Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) be the Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsor of the early evening Monday meal.
“The Daughters of the American Revolution is a national service organization made up of women who are descended from Revolutionary War Patriots,” said Denise Power, second vice regent of the Lake Tahoe Chapter of the DAR. “We are honored to support our community by participating in Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal.”
The AAD sponsor crew members were stationed on the dinner’s serving line and enjoyed interacting with the dinner guests while serving baked rigatoni with sausage, sautéed zucchini with mushrooms, Caesar salad, and garlic bread.
“It’s such a pleasure to serve Chef Billy’s delicious food and see everyone’s smiling faces,” Denise said during a quick break from the serving line.
Denise was joined by fellow DAR members Hilary Anthony; Jini Becktell, who organized the chapter’s AAD sponsorship; Pam Jimenez; and Susan McKerrihan. Their smiles and kindness were just an added incentive for the dinner guests to enjoy their delicious dinner. In addition to serving dinner to 137 dinner guests, the group bagged fresh fruits and vegetables, helped set up the meal, and assisted with breakdown and cleanup after Grace Hall’s doors closed at 5:30 p.m.
As the AAD sponsor, the DAR contributed $350 toward the cost of the meal. Denise also described the chapter’s ongoing support: “Our members clean and collect containers and drop them off on other Mondays so that guests who want to take food home have a container. It’s wonderful to see familiar faces and friends we’ve made around town, and to see our community take care of each other. We like to start each day remembering to be kind, be brave, be happy, and love one another.”
