UPDATE 7:30 p.m. Monday: Recovery operations have ended for the night and will resume on Tuesday morning. The truck will remain at the scene for the night, so expect delays on Tuesday as they try again to upright the truck with different equipment. It is unknown at this time when those operations will resume. Traffic, in the meantime, is moving in both directions.
UPDATE 5 p.m. Monday: Impairment is suspected in the Monday afternoon crash of a dry bulk tanker truck carrying dry concrete filler. According to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), travelers on US50 near Cave Rock can expect up to four more hours of delays as crews work to get the pull the overturned truck up onto its wheels to be towed away.
NHP Sgt. Chris Brown says the truck was westbound after leaving the tunnel at Cave Rock, when it moved off the right side of road, hit the guard rail, and then when the rail ended it overturned on the dirt just before Hidden Woods Drive. The driver was transported to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
As they upright the truck there is the potential both lanes could be closed.
No other vehicles were involved.
LAKE TAHOE, Nev. – The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) is at the scene of a crash on U.S. 50 near Cave Rock. The crash, which occurred just after 1:30 p.m. on Monday, involves a commercial truck and there are injuries.
The westbound lane is currently closed, but traffic is moving around the crash site.
NHP says to avoid the area if possible and expect delays.
