SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – It will be all about soccer this weekend at South Tahoe High School (STHS) as the Vikings host the NIAA Regional 3a Soccer Playoffs at their stadium on campus.
The South Tahoe Girls Soccer team has had a stellar season with an 11-0-1 record. The STHS Boys team has also had a great season, with a 5-1-2 record going into playoffs.
Friday, October 28 game times
9 a.m. – Elko vs North Tahoe Girls
11 a.m. – Elko vs Truckee Boys
1 p.m. – South Tahoe vs Truckee Girls
3 p.m. – South Tahoe vs Spring Creek Boys
The finals are set for Saturday, November 1, against at Viking Stadium. Game times are 10 a.m. and noon. The winner of the Elko-Truckee boys game plays the winner of the South Tahoe-Spring Creek game at noon.
The winner of the girls regional round game between South Tahoe and Truckee goes against the winner of the Elko-North Tahoe game on Saturday at 10 a.m.
The top two girls teams and top two boys teams advance to the NIAA State Tournament next Friday and Saturday at Cristo Rey in Las Vegas.
Ticket prices are $13 for adults and $6 for students for entry during the tournament.
Whittell High School is in the NIAA 2a division and is also in regional tournament play this week. The boys, #4, play against #1 Yerington at Dayton High School on Friday at 1 p.m. The winner goes to the championship bracket on Nov. 1 at noon.
In Monday’s NIAA 3a boys quarterfinals, South Tahoe, the #2 seed from the west in the league, beat West Wendover, the #1 seed from the east by a score of 4-1. West division leaders, Truckee High, beat their oppoent Lowry, 8-0. North Tahoe High fell to Spring Creek 2-3, and Incline lost a close one to Elko, 4-3.
In Monday’s girls quarterfinals, South Tahoe, the #1 seed from the west shut out Spring Creek, the #4 seed from the east, 4-0. Truckee, #3 seed, shut out Churchill County, the #2 seed from the east, 8-0. North Tahoe, who sit at #2, beat Lowry, #3, 2-0.
