
The football team as well as girls’ soccer and boys’ cross country teams from Whittell High School all continue their seasons as State Tournaments approach.
Cross Country
Cole Snyder, a Whittell High School junior, is heading to State after coming in fourth at Saturday’s NIAA Northern Region Division III/IV Championships at Rancho San Rafael in Reno. His time of 18:35 put him into the top 5 which earns him a spot at the November
Freshman runners Sam Rusk and Jacob Otterstrom placed 43rd and 47th respectively. Rusk had a time of 26:00 and Otterstrom had 28:13.
As a team, Whittell placed eighth with an average time of 36:29.
Whittell’s girls team had two finishers at the Northern Nevada meet, Senior Mary Sanchez who came in 23rd with a time of 25:50 and Marissa Maidman, a junior, placed 25th with a time of 26:08.
Soccer
The Whittell girls will be playing in the NIAA Division III Nevada State High School Soccer Championships starting on November 6. They have the #2 seed for the tournament, drawing Incline, the #3 seed, in the first round. Their game starts at 12:00 p.m. The last time the two teams met on October 22 ended up in a 2-2 tie.
The winner of that game plays the winner of the North Tahoe-White Pine game on November 7 at 12:00 p.m.
Incline High is the host for the State Championship game which features only teams from the North.
The Warriors have a league high 11-1-2 record, 13-2-2 overall.
Football
After scoring 416 points during the season (while allowing just 52 points), and having an undefeated 9-0 season, the Whittell High football team looks strong as they prepare for the post season.
They are headed into the NIAA Division IV State Tournament with a first round home game on November 6 against Carlin, Nev. The 6 p.m. game puts the number one and two seeds in a head-to-head match-up. The winner of that game plays the winner of the Beatty-Pahranagat Valley game on November 14. The State Championship game will be held on November 21.
