ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. – Alpine County Sheriff-Coroner Taylor Green has announced the appointment of Jesse McKone as undersheriff of the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office. A respected law enforcement professional with 33 years of experience serving communities in California and Nevada, McKone returns from retirement to assume a key leadership role within the department.

McKone began his law enforcement career with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Nevada, where he dedicated 27 years to public safety before retiring from the agency. Following his retirement from Douglas County, McKone continued his commitment to law enforcement by joining the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office, where he served for six years, ultimately attaining the rank of sergeant before retiring in August 2025.

Throughout his career, McKone has earned the respect and admiration of fellow law enforcement officers, department personnel, and the communities he has served. His extensive experience, institutional knowledge, and established relationships within Alpine County make him exceptionally well-suited to return to the Sheriff’s Office in this new leadership capacity.

“Jesse is highly respected by our deputies and throughout the Alpine County community,” said Sheriff Taylor Green. “His 33 years of law enforcement experience, leadership, and deep understanding of our department will be tremendous assets as we continue strengthening the Sheriff’s Office. We are fortunate to have someone of his caliber willing to come out of retirement and once again serve the people of Alpine County.”

As undersheriff, McKone will serve as second-in-command of the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office, working alongside Sheriff Green to oversee departmental operations, support personnel, and maintain the agency’s commitment to professional, responsive, and community-oriented law enforcement.

McKone’s appointment comes as Sheriff Green begins his tenure as Alpine County Sheriff-Coroner, effective November 2, 2026. Together, their leadership will emphasize continuity, professionalism, and a shared commitment to the safety and well-being of Alpine County residents and visitors.

Alpine County congratulates Undersheriff Jesse McKone on his appointment and welcomes him back to public service.
