If you haven’t made it to Azul Latin Kitchen yet it may be time to schedule a visit for lunch, dinner or a cocktail. The decorations are the bar are very creative and homey, including furniture hanging on the wall and crates as the light fixtures.
Azul opened in the Heavenly Village several weeks ago but they just had their official ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony on November 7. Many people from the South Lake Tahoe business community stopped by to enjoy the food and drinks, many for the first time. A band played near the fire pit outside.
The owners, Ted Kennedy and Ray Villaman, have helped to turn the economic tides in the South Shore, as Azul has already created 75 jobs for locals and will continue to grow. They also own the popular Base Camp Pizza which is also in the Village.
In order to create its mouth-watering California-style Mexican food and craft cocktails, Azul is one of the few South Shore restaurants committed to using local, organic and sustainable products whenever possible. Azul highlights the farms and ranches that are currently featured on the menu on their chalkboards.
If the past couple of months are any indicator, it will certainly be an exciting year for Azul Latin Kitchen in winter, summer and each season in between.
(South Tahoe Now has been there a couple of times and enjoyed all visits! Ask about the local’s discount ….at the time it was 10% off and three tacos or two tacos and a side for $12.50. I enjoyed the Quinoa Tostada Salad, have had the Beef and brussel sprout tacos, street taco and Thai Curry taco as well as the Queso Fundido.)
