Rain, snow, ice and sun in the 7-day forecast

An area of low pressure will bring cold air into the region on Tuesday night and Wednesday as an atmospheric river approaches Northern California, according to the National Weather Service.

By Wednesday night and Thursday the clash of cold air trapped in the valleys, along with warming above 5500 to 6000 feet brought with the atmospheric river, there could be a short period of freezing rain.

If freezing rain does occur, a light coating of black ice could cause very difficult travel conditions across portions of the eastern Sierra and western Nevada Thursday morning. Ice could form on sidewalks, tree limbs and powerlines.

The forecast from the National Weather Service:

Monday night – Partly cloudy, with a low around 19. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tuesday – Mostly sunny, with a high near 36. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Tuesday Night – Partly cloudy, with a low around 11. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming east in the evening.

Wednesday – A 10 percent chance of snow after 4pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 32. East wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday Night – A 40 percent chance of snow, mainly after 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming south in the evening. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Thursday- Rain and snow. High near 43. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Thursday Night – Rain. Low around 35. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Friday – Rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. Breezy.

Friday Night = Rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Breezy.

Saturday- A chance of rain and snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 45.

Saturday Night = A slight chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27.

Sunday – A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42.
