SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A 50-year-old woman from Fremont, Calif., and an 84-year-old man from Yerington, Nev. have been identified as the two people who died in a head-on collision on November 28 on Echo Summit.

At approximately 5:35 p.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the collision between a westbound Toyota Sequoia and an eastbound Chevrolet Traverse.

The Toyota and Chevrolet collided head-on in the eastbound lane for unknown reasons.

As a result of the collision, the driver of the Chevrolet, Donald Smith, and a passenger from the Toyota, Peggy Liu, sustained major injuries to which they succumbed.

The driver of the Toyota sustained major injuries and three other passengers in the Toyota sustained moderate injuries and were transported for medical care.
