US 50 at Meyers and Echo Summit as traffic holds were released.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Christmas Day travel over the Sierra has not been an easy one, with road closures, accidents, and spinouts during heavy snow and high winds.

As of 10 p.m. Thursday, US50 over Echo Summit has reopened after traffic was held in Meyers due to accidents and spinouts. Chains are currently required from Meyers to Twin Bridges. Heavy snow is still expected overnight.

Traffic on I80 was held multiple times during the day due to road conditions, accidents and spinouts. It is currently open with chain controls between Nyack and Truckee.

SR431, the Mt. Rose Highway, remains closed over the summit.

Chains or snow tires are required on Kingsbury Grade and US50 Spooner Summit.
