Living History – Snowshoe Thompson May 26, 2023

John “Snowshoe” Thompson-carried the U.S. Mail across the Sierra Nevada Mountains (Placerville to Genoa) during the winter for 20 years. He glided across the snow with an 80-pound sack over a 180-mile route in just 5 days. Using his hand-crafted snow skates (skis) and outfitted with nothing more than a jacket, dried meat and matches, Thompson was a larger-than-life character, saving numerous lives, serving his community unwaveringly and devoted his entire life to the betterment of his fellow man/woman.
