Jason passed away unexpectedly and is survived by his father Henry, brother Hank, sister Tanya, aunt Wanda Mackey, and of course his beloved cat Mookie. Jason was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Kershell, grandparents Eva and Bill Wolf, and his much-loved dogs Cuddles and Keira.

A resident of South Lake Tahoe since infancy, he graduated from South Tahoe High School in 1991.

Jason was a great lover of sports; many friends have great memories of watching sports (especially the Oakland A's), playing softball, throwing darts, playing pool, and bowling with him.

Dear Editor: El Dorado Registrar of Voters Bill O’Neill’s letter to “Clarify registration eligibility” (see here) fails to address the issue I have repeatedly requested clarification about “retirement homes” that affects many of the property owners. I requested the Registrar to clarify the issue so that those who are legally qualified to vote at their retirement homes would not be afraid to do so.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Historical Society is bringing back its popular summer speaker series, Tahoe History Talks on the Beach, on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. starting June 25.

The free talks are held at Lakeview Commons on the west side steps. Lakeview Commons is located at the corner of US50 and Lakeview Ave. There is plenty of free parking.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - El Dorado County Elections Department director, Bill O’Neill, issued an open letter to all voters to clarify where a person may register to vote and the importance of adhering to Election Law.

There has been a lot of concern surrounding voting and where one can register with the Vacancy Tax on the November ballot in South Lake Tahoe.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The man who pleaded guilty to shooting and killing a South Lake Tahoe man at the Hard Rock casino at Lake Tahoe in 2023 has been sentenced to the Nevada Department of Corrections for a maximum of 55 years and will be eligible for parole after a minimum of 22 years.

Edgar Julian Delgado was sentenced under a plea agreement made when he pleaded guilty to First Degree Murder and admitted the allegation he used a deadly weapon in the commission of the offense back in April.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - For years, beachgoers have been parking along US50 at Zephyr Cove to access the beaches at both Zephyr Cove Resort Beach and Zephyr Shoals. It was a nightmare to drive by the resort on popular beach days with cars left in no parking zones, tires over the white lines when parked, and people walking along US50 on both sides of the highway.

Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) conducted safety studies and last year added a stop light at US50 and Warrior Way and made the long stretch of highway from north of the light to the resort entrance as a "no parking" zone.

ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. - Two people have been found dead after the plane they were in crashed in Alpine County, south of Lake Tahoe. On June 13 at approximately 1 a.m., deputies from the Alpine County Sheriff's Office were notified of an overdue aircraft that had left Lodi, Calif. on Wednesday afternoon.

Over 70 artists make up the lineup for this year's two-day Bass Camp Festival. The electronic dance music (EDM) festival has moved to Wingfield Park in Reno July 27-28. For four years, the South Shore of Lake Tahoe was host to the event.

Tickets are now on sale for Bass Camp which will see artists include Gigantic NGHTMRE, Zeds Dead, Bear Grillz, Joyryde, Kill Safari, San Holo, Wax Motif, and Herobust.

The next free history presentation at South of North Brewing will be held on Monday, June 17 at 5 p.m. “Technology on the Comstock” is presented by local authors and historians David & Gayle Woodruff. Using vintage photographs and extensive research, they will examine the innovative spirit that helped make the Comstock Lode of Virginia City one of the most important industrial periods in human history. From four-mile-long tunnels to the world’s largest pumps, the tales of ingenuity and imagination of the Comstock men and women are brought to life in this FREE 55-minute history presentation.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Community College Foundation hosted its annual scholarship banquet on Friday, June 7 at the Tahoe Blue Event Center. Eighty-five incoming, continuing, and transferring students were awarded 185 scholarships totaling $201,000.

The banquet provided an opportunity for students and donors to connect and share their stories.

This new spot is located at the corner of Lake Tahoe Blvd. and Fremont Avenue. We visited on June 10, 2024, and it was a great experience! We had four entries, the nachos, Smashburger, Quesadillas, and tacos.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - In another marathon meeting, the Douglas County School Board selected its next leader, Angelo "Frankie" Alvarado by a vote of 4-3. As is the norm for the last 18 months, the divided board voted along the previously drawn lines - the "majority" of David Burns, Susan Jansen, Katherine Dickerson, and Doug Englekirk, and the "minority" of trustees Yvonne Wagstaff, Carey Kangas, and Linda Gilkerson.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A carwash, raffle, and swag sale on Saturday, June 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. will raise funds for Tahoe PAWS and TLC 4 Furry Friends.

The all-volunteer organization provides invaluable support to pet owners in their time of street and need. Wendy Jones of Tahoe PAWS and her team offers expert search, rescue, recovery, and reunite services to anyone whose pet has run off, escaped, or misplaced themselves.
