SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Almost 3,000 pounds of garbage was removed from three homeless encampments in South Lake Tahoe over the past month. A collaboration between the two field crew members of Clean Tahoe, the U.S. Forest Service, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, and the El Dorado County Sheriff's Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) addressed the encampments.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Twelve years ago, about 139,000 pounds of telecommunication lead cables were found abandoned along almost eight miles of Lake Tahoe shoreline. One long segment of the cables was resting offshore between Baldwin Beach and Rubicon Way, and another segment was inside Emerald Bay.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Aquatic invasive plants were successfully removed from 17 acres of the Taylor and Tallac creeks and marshes in South Lake Tahoe.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved a three percent cost of living adjustment (COLA) for its unrepresented staff members. This increase goes into effect for part-time snow plow drivers as well since they are not represented by a union - only full-time transportation staff is.

While this doesn't solve the problem of getting enough snowplow operators on the streets of the county portion of the Lake Tahoe Basin for this winter, it helps those already on the payroll.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo called on Nevadans to begin preparing for the nation's 250th birthday in 2026. At a press conference held Wednesday at the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City, Lombardo introduced America250, a non-partisan national initiative to honor the anniversary of the United States of America. He highlighted the importance of 2025 as a year of planning and collaboration.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With Thanksgiving two weeks away, the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe is seeking donations to provide Club families with Thanksgiving family meals. Last year the Club distributed 40 meals to those families who requested to receive them, and their goal is 50 meals this year.

“Thanksgiving Holiday Meals are the kick-off to our giving season,” said Aimi Xistra-Rich, the Club’s development director. “Providing a meal for our Club families shows our community supports those who need it most.”

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 5th graders at Bijou Elementary are excited to participate in an overnight trip to Sierra Nevada Journeys to learn outdoor science education. To accomplish this, the students are holding a fundraiser at Elements Eatery and Bar on Wednesday, December 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Besides food, there will also be a student art sale and a scavenger hunt for the kids.

Early-bird tickets are available through November 30. That cost for a meal and drink is $30 for kids and $45 for adults, and starting Dec. 1 the price goes up five dollars per person.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It's another quick-moving storm passing through the Sierra on Wednesday, Nov. 13, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS)in Reno to issue advisories.

There is a Wind Advisory from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area, Surprise Valley California, Lassen-Eastern Plumas-Eastern Sierra Counties, and Northern Washoe County. Expect southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. Waves on Lake Tahoe should be 3-5 feet.

Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. - On Tuesday, November 12, a bomb threat was reported at the Alpine County Administrative Building, 99 Water Street in Markleeville. Local authorities responded promptly, ensuring the safety of all staff and residents. Following established protocols, the Alpine County Sheriff's Office and Eastern Alpine Fire Department conducted a thorough search of the premises after evacuating the building.
