LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) Fall Prescribed Fire Program continues around Lake Tahoe, conditions and weather permitting. Limited pile burning may occur this week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. If conditions are favorable, widespread burning will resume next week. Smoke may be present.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - ‘Tis the season for spreading holiday cheer, and this year the Beach Retreat & Lodge is doing just that by offering complimentary guest rooms to the families of those hospitalized from Tuesday, December 24 through Thursday, December 26.

“No one should have to be alone for Christmas,” said Dan Evans, general manager of the Beach Retreat & Lodge. “And for those who can’t make it home for the Holidays, we’ll help bring their homes to them.”

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe has launched new Parks and Recreation Facebook and Instagram accounts. This initiative aims to enhance community engagement, provide timely updates, and share valuable information about the city's parks, recreational activities, and events.

The new social media accounts will serve as a central hub for residents and visitors to stay informed about the latest happenings in South Lake Tahoe's parks and recreation scene. Followers can expect to find updates on park maintenance, upcoming events, recreational programs, and much more.

Kirkwood will be implementing a new parking system this winter so they will be holding a Community Parking Open House on Saturday, December 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the the Kirkwood Village. They open for the 2024/25 season on December 6.

Learn how to prevent, diagnose, and treat hearing and imbalance disorders at a special event at the Zephyr Cove Library on Tuesday, December 3 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

"Prioritizing Your Hearing Health" is presented by Dr. Jenelle Sandy, an audiologist and owner of Tahoe Family Hearing Clinic in South Lake Tahoe. Specializing in pediatric and adult audiology for over a decade, Dr.
Sandy provides diagnostic services, hearing amplification, cochlear implants, and programming.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. – In April 2025, students from George Whittell in grades 7-9 will embark on the trip of a lifetime to Boston and New York. This Spring Break trip is being organized by Mrs. Heather Lamb, Whittell's Mathematics teacher, in conjunction with Global Travel Alliance. This journey will offer students the chance to explore U.S. history, cultural landmarks, and iconic sites while connecting classroom lessons to real-world experiences.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (STLPD) responded to a call for a hit-and-run collision on Ski Run Blvd. at 6:34 p.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, officers found three damaged vehicles, all of them unoccupied. Upon investigation, they found that two of the vehicles were parked when the third, a Subaru, crashed into them and then crashed into a tree. The driver of the Subaru was nowhere in sight according to SLTPD.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Carson Valley Parade of Lights is scheduled to illuminate the streets of Douglas County on Saturday, December 7. The road will be closed at approximately 4:30 p.m. and the parade starts at 5 p.m.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has these reminders for a great parade experience:

Parade floats will begin at Heritage Park onto Main Street from Eddy Street and head north through town, left on Esmeralda, and to the end at Minden Town Park.

Main Street will be closed to traffic from Waterloo to 6th from around 4:30 p.m. until approximately 7 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County Sheriff's Office responds to calls throughout the county. The following calls only pertain to the South and West Shore, including Meyers, South Lake Tahoe, Meeks Bay, Tahoma, and the Echo Summit area. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - While the Winter Storm Warning is in effect until Wednesday at 4 a.m., the storm appears to be trending warmer with snow projections cut back in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The most pronounced impacts of this storm will be felt across portions of Alpine and Mono counties on Tuesday, with elevations above 7,500 feet experiencing the greatest snowfall.

After this passed, the Thanksgiving holiday and weekend will be generally dry with sunshine and cool temperatures.

UPDATE: Liberty has restored power to the over 17,000 customers without electricity Sunday afternoon. Power was back on to all South Lake Tahoe customers by 3:30 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Liberty is reporting a large outage at the Y in South Lake Tahoe that is affecting about 6,055 customers. The outage was reported at 11:19 a.m. and at this time, crews are on their way to determine the length of an outage.

There are also a few, smaller outages at the northwest end of the lake.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office became aware of potential sexual assault allegations involving a correctional officer and immediately began an investigation. On November 22, 2024, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Officer Michael Griffiths IV, 24 years old, was placed under arrest for sexual assault of an inmate.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The official lighting of the Christmas tree at Heavenly Village will be held on Friday, November 29 at 6:30 p.m. but the action get underway at 5 p.m. with live entertainment.

Watch Santa Claus arrive as the over 60-foot tree is lit amidst much fanfare.

Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil, Congressman Kevin Kiley, and El Dorado County Sheriff Jeff Leikauf will all be on hand for the ceremony which will also feature Kristen Brown, the Roseville resident who survived the knockout round and is a member of Team Legend on The Voice.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Over the last several months, many stories have circulated in the community about Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC). These stories have included animals being euthanized, long-time volunteers and staff members being let go, a board that isn't transparent, coyotes breaking in and killing an eaglet, and the loss of a permit to house rehabilitating bears.

The new Tahoe Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, under the direction of conductor James Rowie who is in his 19th season, have announced performances of Handel's Messiah this holiday season. There will be shows in Reno, Incline Village, Minden, and South Lake Tahoe from December 8-22.
