When I approached the City Council at the late April meeting to announce my candidacy for the 2026 City Council, I was planning on taking an "Information Tour" to reach out to our community to learn more about what is wanted and needed in our great city and for our residents.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Kathi Jensen of South Lake Tahoe was sworn in as the new trustee for District 5 of the El Dorado County Board of Education on May 7. Jensen has over 35 years of experience as an educator, from teaching to administration, and an extensive record of community service and leadership in educational initiatives. She has also been on the board of the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) for over 25 years and is currently serving another term as board president.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join the Lake Tahoe Historical Society for the 3rd annual Western Days on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum complex. Entry and activities are free.

There will be tours of the museum, the 1930s log cabin, a peek into the 1860s Toll House, children's hands-on activities, horse-drawn carriage rides, craft vendors, music by the Cash Only Band and Whiskey Wolves, and western entertainment and storytelling by David and Gayle Woodruff.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Child Development Center (CDC). This milestone reflects three decades of serving the children of LTCC students, LTCC employees, and the South Lake Tahoe community. To honor this occasion, the public is invited to a celebration on Thursday, May 16 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Arc'teryx has announced a new climbing event, Queer Ascent, taking place in Truckee from May 31 - June 1. Spearheaded by Jordan Cannon, Arc'teryx Athlete and respected figure in the climbing world, Queer Ascent aims to create a welcoming and inclusive space for all climbers, with a special focus on celebrating and amplifying the voices of the 2SLGBTQ+ climbing community.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Stephen Curry will be skipping his golf shoes this July and instead heading to Paris with his basketball shoes for the Olympics where he is a member of Team USA.

Curry was the winner at the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe in 2023 and will forego his title defense in search of Olympic gold for 2024.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Soroptimist Club of South Lake Tahoe is inviting the public to its meeting Wednesday when local urbanized bear expert Toogee Sielsch is their guest speaker.

Toogee's presentation will be on May 8 at 12 p.m. at the South Tahoe Association of Realtor Building at 2307 James So. Lake Tahoe CA. There is no need to RSVP.

Toogee will be discussing the history of the black bear in the South Lake Tahoe area as well as the current situation with populations now that the females have emerged from their birthing dens.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Dave Ennis, a long-time South Lake Tahoe local, recently came to the rescue of two local properties - the American Legion and Grocery Outlet.

For the last few years, there has been a hole in the rear of the American Legion building where a screened grate was once in place. Dave is a member of the American Legion and told Commander Tom Milham he'd get his "Genie" lift back in town and replace the grate. Dave got up on the lift and replaced the grate.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® Young Professionals Network is hosting an event for 1st Time Homebuyers on Wednesday, May 15th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Lake Tahoe Pizza Co. back room.

Interested buyers are encouraged to join them at the free event to learn more about the home-buying process. During the event, people will hear from a local mortgage lender, insurance broker, title and escrow company, home inspector, and REALTOR® to start building knowledge about what’s entailed in purchasing a home, and how to best get set up for success.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners are holding a special meeting that will include the final adoption of the County Budget Fiscal Year 24-25. The Town of Gardnerville, Town of Genoa, and Town of Minden will also present their prospective budgets to the Board.

This meeting will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the Historic Courthouse in Minden, located at 1616 8th Street, Minden, NV 89423.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe has held a Spelling Bee for students in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District for the last 40 years. Last week the word action returned, with students from Sierra House, Bijou, and Meyers elementary schools participating (all local schools are invited).

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Momentum is a story of resilience, vulnerability, and sacrifice in the face of life’s most insurmountable challenges. This documentary film is about locals, by locals, and soon the rest of the world will get to appreciate it.

On May 2nd, an article was published in South Tahoe Now, “Technology being used as a partner in forest fuels treatment at Lake Tahoe,” describing the new “BurnBot” and its brush clearing capabilities. The article opens with a statement from Amy Berry of the Tahoe Fund, claiming that “we are going to lose the whole forest” if they aren’t “thinned”.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – As the scent of spring starts to fill the air, the South Tahoe Public Utility District and Tahoe Master Gardeners are thrilled to announce a series of free workshops aimed at empowering residents to transform their outdoor space into vibrant, water-efficient
gardens.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two South Lake Tahoe residents have been honored by the Pay It Forward Project for their volunteer work on the South Shore. Dave Carneggie and Bonnie Driscoll were given a $250 grant in their honor to give to the nonprofit of their choice, and they selected Tahoe Magic. They were also treated to dinner at the Chart House as a thank-you for all they have done for the community.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The next South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 7 at 9 a.m. The public can participate in person at the Lake Tahoe Airport, or online.

Monday Meal is a weekly, full-course, nutritious hot dinner that is served by Bread & Broth (B&B), a ministry of St. Theresa Catholic Church. For over 34 years, B&B has been extending an invitation to all members of the Lake Tahoe South Shore community to join their communal dinner. In recent years, in addition to the meal service, B&B also provides food “giveaway” bags filled with dairy products (milk, eggs, butter), fresh fruit and vegetables, breads and pastries, meat, and a varied assortment of staples.
