Public invited to lecture, The Promise of Chemical Ecology, at UNR Lake Tahoe

INCLINE VILLAGE, The second annual Hitchcock Center for Chemical Ecology Symposium invites the community to Incline Village, Nevada for its keynote lecture by Paul Alan Cox on Thursday, May 30 at 5:30 p.m. Cox will present his lecture titled “The Promise of Chemical Ecology” at the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe, where the symposium is being held.

Town Hall meeting by local organizers on stopping South Lake Tahoe vacancy tax

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A coalition of South Lake Tahoe chambers, realtors, lodging and restaurant groups, small business owners, and residents are holding an anti-vacancy tax campaign kick-off on Thursday, May 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

There is a measure on the November ballot that would, if approved, tax homes vacant more than one-half year or more up to $6,000 per year in the city limits. The Tahoe Chamber and South Tahoe Chamber, along with the rest of their "Keep Community First" coalition.

This new local children's board book is the companion book to Good Night Tahoe, our best-selling book about the Reno/Carson City/Tahoe region’s places, animals, and activities. In this new adventure, Beary and his friend, Cheeky, count some of the wonderful sights and experiences of Tahoe. Of course, it is full of fantasy and fun for the entire family. You can count on it.

South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club Kid's Fishing Derby

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club is hosting its annual Kid's Fishing Derby at Sawmill Pond on Saturday, June 1 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. which is located on the corner of Lake Tahoe Blvd. and Sawmill Rd. in South Lake Tahoe. This event is free and open to children 14 years old and younger.

Fishing tackle and bait will be available for those without their own. Receive expert guidance from Tahoe Fly Fishing.

There will be a free fish cleaning table.

Hot dogs, chips, and lemonade will be provided!

Volunteers invited to celebrate National Trails Day in Tahoe City on June 1

LAKE TAHOE, Cal. – It’s time to get summer started. On the morning of Saturday, June 1, volunteers of all ages will gather at the 64 Acres Trailhead in Tahoe City to maintain a local stretch of the Tahoe Rim Trail and clean up litter from local walking paths through Tahoe City to Commons Beach. The event is co-hosted by the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) and the League to Save Lake Tahoe (League) in celebration of National Trails Day, an annual opportunity to give back to local trails, protect the environment, and improve access for everyone to enjoy the great outdoors.

Community Wildfire Preparedness Workshop to be held in Kings Beach

NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The community is invited to a Community Wildfire Preparedness Workshop on Saturday, June 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach.

This workshop will include presentations from the Fire Adapted Communities program, North Tahoe Fire, North Lake Tahoe Fire, Living With Fire (University of Reno), CalFire, United States Forest Service, and other experts. They will be covering a wide range of topics related to wildfire risk prevention, Firewise USA, prescribed fire, living with smoke, home hardening, defensible space, and more.

3rd annual Western Days and 75th annual Wagon Train in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join the Lake Tahoe Historical Society for the 3rd annual Western Days on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum complex. Entry and activities are free.

There will be tours of the museum, the 1930s log cabin, a peek into the 1860s Toll House, children's hands-on activities, horse-drawn carriage rides, craft vendors, music by the Cash Only Band and Whiskey Wolves, and western entertainment and storytelling by David and Gayle Woodruff.
