Celebrate the 1920s at 37th annual Great Gatsby Festival at Tallac Historic Site

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – This year marks the 37th anniversary of the Great Gatsby Festival, a multi-day living history and interpretive festival held at the Tallac Historic Site each year. The Great Gatsby Festival is a living history event, celebrating the life and times of the Prohibition Era.

The event was temporarily paused from 2020 - 2022 and was revived in 2023, through a collaborative partnership between the Great Basin Institute, Valhalla Tahoe, and the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.

Unity at the Lake welcomes Donna Apidone as speaker

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Unity at the Lake is welcoming Donna Apidone as their guest presenter on Sunday, August 4 at 10 a.m. Donna is a former "Morning Edition" and “CapRadio Reads” host on NPR, and since leaving the radio network, she has been teaching and writing.

Donna teaches TransForMission, a course all about finding Purpose in life, at Sacramento State University and congregations throughout the region. The course is based on her book, also titled TransForMission.

National Night Out scheduled for August 6 in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign held in communities across the country on the first Tuesday of August. The event promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, and more caring places to live.

National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Barton Health hosting public meeting on planned changes with move to Stateline

August 6, 2024 - 4:00pm

Barton Health is in the planning process for the Barton Hospital Replacement Project which will be based in Stateline, Nev. This project is meant to elevate care for the Lake Tahoe region through a new, state-of-the-art hospital featuring additional healthcare services and leading technology. To inform and engage the community in the planning process, Barton will host a public Community Education & Input Session at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6 at South Tahoe High School.

Tahoe Transportation District holding public meeting on Short-Range Transit Plan update

The U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration, requires that transit providers undertake a short-range planning process every five to seven years.

The Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) has begun the update for its Short-Range Transit Plan, and TTD is creating this webpage to solicit public comments during the process.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Historical Society is bringing back its popular summer speaker series, Tahoe History Talks on the Beach, on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. starting June 25.

The free talks are held at Lakeview Commons on the west side steps. Lakeview Commons is located at the corner of US50 and Lakeview Ave. There is plenty of free parking.

Tahoe History Talks on the Beach: Toogee Sielsch and history of urbanized black bears

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Historical Society hosts another Tahoe History Talks on the Beach on Tuesday, August 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Lakeview Commons. This week's speaker is local urbanized black bear expert Toogee Sielsch. He taught himself bear behavior during morning walks in the 1990s and is now South Lake Tahoe's bear authority.

Always entertaining, Toogee (pronounced 2-G) will talk about the black bear's history on the South Shore, why numbers have grown over the last decade, and how people can be better stewards in keeping bears safe.

Public invited to open house and tours of Tahoe Justice Court and Douglas County Jail

STATELINE, Nev. – The Tahoe Justice Court and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Tahoe Jail are opening their doors to the public on August 7, 2024, from 4 p.m.-6 p.m., This unique opportunity allows the public to get a firsthand look at the dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to keep the community safe and the vital services they provide.

The Tahoe Justice Court and Jail are located at 175 Highway 50, Stateline, Nev.
