Public invited to free training on protecting Lake Tahoe from aquatic invasive species

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A team of Lake Tahoe's protectors, environmental partners from several agencies, will lead a free, public training on how to preserve the Lake’s blue waters from the threat of aquatic invasive species on Thursday, June 6. This training is being held as boating and paddling season kicks off and as part of California Invasive Species Action Week.

Aging and Caregiver miniseries in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The County of El DoradoArea Agency on Aging Family Caregiver Support Program is offering another of its popular aging and caregiver miniseries. Learn about how to prevent scams, legal rights, and resources for caregivers.

All events take place at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center. 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 13, 20, and 27.

Online presentation of the geological history of Lake Tahoe

Uncover the geological history of the Lake Tahoe basin during an online presentation offered by the Tahoe Area Sierra Club on Thursday, June 6 at 5 p.m. The public is invited to join the on Zoom to learn about the data from the lake's core sediment from Paula Noble, Professor for the Department of Geological Sciences, and Global Water Center at the University of Nevada Reno.

Open house for proposed achievable housing project in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A second community meeting for the proposed Alpine Estates in South Lake Tahoe is planned for Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in the South Lake Tahoe City Council Chambers.

Alpine Estates is planned for the area at the Y between The Crossing at Tahoe Valley and Tahoe Valley Pharmacy. One year ago the project was 70 units of achievable housing, with rent capped at 125 percent of the area median income.

South Lake Tahoe Senior Citizens Inc. holding free indoor picnic with music from Cash Only Band

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Lake Tahoe Senior Citizens Inc. is having a free indoor picnic for the public on Friday, June 7 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Seniors are invited to learn about all the new activities offered by the nonprofit group and suggest new ones.

There will be hot dogs, chips, chili, and more! Enjoy music from the Cash Only Band too.

Tahoe Art League Summer Art Show opening Friday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Art League is hosting an opening reception to mark the opening of its Summer Art Show this Friday, June 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Stop by and check out the new art and meet the artists. Refreshments/light appetizers will be served.

Also, Allen Graybill will have several live demonstrations of his intricate gourd work throughout the summer. The first two will be on Friday, June 21 and Friday, June 28 from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.

The Tahoe Art League gallery is located at 3062 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

$5 Community Dump Day in South Lake Tahoe June 8

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The long-awaited annual cleanup day in South Lake Tahoe has been scheduled for Saturday, June 8. Clean Tahoe will be holding the day-long event from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Dispose of your unwanted items for just $5 per carload. Residential loads only. Nevada residents are charged $10 per load as are pick-up trucks and trailers. UHauls and oversized trucks are priced by size.

Grow Your Own Garden Festivals planned for Lake Tahoe and Truckee

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There may still be patches of snow on the ground around Lake Tahoe, and temperatures aren't quite warm enough to get plants started, but it isn't too early to start planning!

The UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe, Slow Food Lake Tahoe, and the UC Davis Environmental Research Center know how to grow food successfully in the Lake Tahoe area and they would like to share their knowledge with you.
