Annual Great Sierra River Cleanup on September 21st

Join Sierra Nevada Alliance and our host sites throughout the Sierra Nevada including various sites throughout the Lake Tahoe basin for the Great Sierra River Cleanup (GSRC) on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Last year, 633 volunteers removed 7,402.5 pieces of trash from 98 miles of Sierra Nevada waterways. You can be part of the solution and volunteer to help remove litter and plastic pollution from our beloved Sierra Nevada watershed by joining Keep Tahoe Blue, Incline Village General Improvement District, Tahoe Area Sierra Club, and Diamond Peak Ski Education Foundation.

Public invited to presentation on electric vehicles at South Lake Tahoe Library

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join Liberty Utilities at a presentation at the South Lake Tahoe Library about the basics and the future of electric vehicles (EVs) on September 24 at 5 p.m.

As more EVs are being spotted in the Lake Tahoe basin, both personal cars and public transportation, more charging stations have been added to handle their potential future.

The Tahoe Area Sierra Club is hosting Matt Newberry from Liberty Utilities when he joins them at the library to talk about EV basics and answer any questions the public may have about these vehicles.

Enjoy a Chautauqua performance of Lucky Baldwin and his daughter Anita - An Unconventional Success by Gayle & David Woodruff on September 25 at the Boathouse Theater at Valhalla Tahoe. Lucky was “one of the greatest pioneers” of California business. Earning a fortune in speculating on mining stocks of the Great Comstock Lode, Baldwin owned over 8,000 acres at Lake Tahoe, including some of the Lake’s only remaining old-growth forest (now the Tallac Historic Site as well as Fallen Leaf Lake).

Enjoy virtual underwater journey of Emerald Bay

Join California State Parks on September 26 at 1 p.m. for a virtual live dive at Emerald Bay State Park. Go into the Emerald Forest dive site, the result of a dramatic landslide in 1955. The effect of the slide can be seen as massive tree trunks rise from the depths, creating a stunning underwater forest.
