UPDATED 5PM: On Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. Pacific Standard Time, the federal government will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS).  The duration of the test will last up to 30 seconds. During this period, regularly scheduled television, radio, cable, and satellite shows will be interrupted as the system is being tested.

Woman in stable condition after crosswalk accident

UPDATED NOV. 3: A 43-year-old woman was seriously injured and taken to Renown Regional Medical Center by Care Flight after being hit in a crosswalk on Monday afternoon in Gardnerville, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
Blanca Lydia Garcia-Herrera suffered some broken bones and is in stable condition at Regional Medical Center in Reno.
An accident investigation indicates Garcia-Herrera was walking in a crosswalk to an entrance to an O’Reilly vehicle parts store at 2:37 p.m. on Highway 395 north of Kingslane, said Trooper Dan Lopez.

South Lake Tahoe and Douglas County leaders to hold joint meeting

The South Lake Tahoe City Council and Douglas County Commissioners are pleased to announce their first joint public meeting to be held on Friday, Nov. 4, at the Edgewood Tahoe Conference Room. The public is invited to attend the meeting beginning at 1 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting is to strengthen partnerships across state lines between the two organizations and among elected officials, discuss opportunities to leverage resources, revitalize the economy and environment in the South Shore community, and improve efficiencies among government agencies, according to a news release.
