Firefighters responded this morning to a quarter-acre brush fire that emitted a lot of smoke near the top of Kingsbury Grade. No structures were threatened. The fire, reported at around 11:45 a.m. was controlled quickly by the first responding unit from Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, said Fire Chief Ben Sharit.

The East Shore continued to outperform the rest of the Lake Tahoe real estate market, which saw home values fall overall during the third quarter. The median price for a single-family home in Lake Tahoe fell 10 percent to $370,500 from July to September, according to Chase International’s latest housing report.

U.S. Forest Service fire and fuels management crews will be conducting prescribed fire operations in the Andria Drive area off Kingsbury Grade in Stateline, Nev., through the rest of the week. If conditions allow, the Forest Service also may resume operations in the Angora area, focusing on the area below Angora Ridge Rd. and west of Mule Deer Circle. The number of acres will depend on weather conditions and other factors.

Lake Tahoe casinos at Stateline continued healthy gains this summer, taking in $27.3 million in August, a 16.2 percent increase over 2010 figures for the same month, the Nevada gaming control board reports today.
Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $886,861,912 for the month of August 2011, 6.10 percent decrease compared to August 2010, when licensees reported a gaming win of $944,457,344. Gaming profits in Stateline in August 2010 were 23,518,599.

As an early snowstorm descended on South Lake Tahoe the first week of October, the continuing winter of economic discontent looks bleak for the city’s budget woes and employees facing layoff. Update 7:14PM: Marie Hanson's family has confirmed through Facebook that the remains found Sunday at the site in Washington are Marie's. Services will be held this Saturday, October 15th at Sierra Community Church, Sierra Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe at noon. More info to follow.

UPDATE 3:52PM: Searchers have found skeletal remains and jewelry in an area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest where a South Lake Tahoe woman, Marie Hanson, was last seen during the Rainbow Family gathering. The Skamania County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Monday that searchers would continue to look for other evidence to link the remains and jewelry to Hanson, 54, reported missing by family since July 9. CalStar air ambulance has responded to an accident this afternoon that involved a vehicle that hit a pedestrian in the 2700 block of Lake Tahoe Boulevard at around noon today.
South Lake Tahoe police and rescue have the westbound lane blocked at the scene of the accident, which involved a vehicle and a 49-year-old man. The accident happened across the street from Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church.
The condition of the victim is unknown. CalStar was to land near the snow dump area.

The USA gas station located on Lake Tahoe Blvd. was robbed by two men wearing masks late Saturday night. Suspect 1 pulled out a large revolver type gun on the clerk and demanded money. There were 3 customers in the store at the time. No one was hurt or injured.
