Three seats open for LTUSD School Board election in November

There will be three open seats on the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board of Education this fall when voters head to the polls on November 8, 2016.

Governed by a team of five members, only Board President Barbara Bannar and member Ginger Nicolay-Davis are not up for re-election. Seats held by incumbents Adam Jones, Dr. Michael Doyle and Dr. Larry Green will be on the ballot.

Adam Jones, who represents Trustee Area #1, was appointed to the Board in March 2015 following the resignation of Sue Novasel.

Dr. Michael Doyle, representing Trustee Area #3, was elected in 2007 and has served two terms.

Dr. Larry Green, from Trustee Area #4, was also elected in 2007 and has served two terms.

For a map of Trustee Areas, follow this link.

Since 2013, Board members must reside in the Trustee Area they represent, and they are only voted by the citizens who live in the same area.

To be eligible for election, Board candidates must be 18 years of age or older; a citizen of the state; a resident of the school district; a registered voter; and not disqualified by the constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office.

Deciding on the people who oversee the schools in South Lake Tahoe is not to be taken lightly since tax dollars and the education of children are at stake. The position is a four-year term.

More information on how to file for election will be issued by the El Dorado County Elections Department in the coming months. The LTUSD website can be found here: www.ltusd.org.
