Olympic countdown: Anderson and Bowman lead U.S. teams to South Korea

Gold medalists Maddie Bowman and Jamie Anderson are representing the South Shore once again on the global stage as they head to the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang February 9-25.

Below are the Olympic snowboarding, free skiing, alpine and freestyle teams headed to South Korea. (names in bold are Lake Tahoe area athletes)

Lake Tahoe Olympians to be honored at Gold Medal Gala

Its been 50 years since the first gold medal in skiing and snowboarding was won by an American. Since Gretchen Fraser’s historic slalom gold at St. Moritz in 1948, 31 athletes from the U.S. have brought home 35 gold medals.

In the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia, Maddie Bowman and Jamie Anderson from South Lake Tahoe each won gold, Bowman in women’s halfpipe skiing and Anderson in women’s slopestyle snowboarding.

Heavenly's Sho Kashima Named to 2015 Freestyle Skiing Team

South Lake Tahoe's Sho Kashima was named to the 2015 U.S. Freestyle Skiing Team Tuesday. Kashima, who has called Heavenly Valley his home since 4 years old, made the "A" men's team.

Event Schedules for Lake Tahoe's Olympic Athletes

Athletes from around the world are headed to Sochi, Russia for the start of the 2014 Olympics on Thursday, February 6. Television viewers will be able to follow all ten Lake Tahoe area athletes starting on the first day of competition. The following is the NBC schedule of events, subject to change. Local athlete event times will be highlighted below in bold:

The USA has a record 94 athletes headed to Sochi, Russia for the 2014 Olympic games next week.

U.S. Olympic Freestyle Team Nominations Announced

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association announced the nomination of nine moguls and aerials athletes to the U.S. Olympic Freestyle Ski Team. The team will be led by reigning Olympic Champion Hannah Kearney and Olympians Patrick Deneen, Heather McPhie, Emily Cook and Ashley Caldwell. The athletes were nominated based on results on the International Ski Federation World Cup.

U.S. Freestyle Championship weekend kicks off Friday at Heavenly

The U.S. Freestyle Championships kicks off tomorrow, South Lake Tahoe style, at Heavenly Mountain Resort. Here's the weekend lineup:

Heavenly hosts Sprint U.S. Freestyle Championships

From March 29-31, 2013, Heavenly Mountain Resort will be buzzing with excitement as Olympic hopefuls take to the California side of the resort to compete in moguls, aerials and dual moguls. The Sprint U.S. Freestyle Championships will return to Heavenly’s famous Gunbarrel run, as U.S. team athletes come together for the final event of the season to battle it out for the title of U.S. Champion. Leading the team are Olympic and World Champion Hannah Kearney (Norwich, VT), and hometown hero Sho Kashima (South Lake Tahoe, CA).

Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation 2012-13 season registration begins

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation at Lake Tahoe has opened registration for the 2012 – 2013 competitive and development ski and snowboard programs. With a variety of options from the One-Day Program to the Full-Time Competitive Program, the Foundation has something for all ages and levels of skiers and riders. Registration packets are available online and at the HSSF building.

Heavenly to host U.S. Freestyle Championships through 2014

Heavenly Mountain Resort will host the U.S. Freestyle Championships in 2012-13 and 2013-14. The two-year deal brings the women’s and men’s moguls, aerials and dual moguls back to South Lake Tahoe for the second time. Heavenly also hosted the U.S. Freestyle Championships in 2004, as well as FIS World Cup Freestyle events in 1999 and 2000.

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation has opened registration for the 2011 – 2012 Alpine, Freestyle, Freeride and Snowboard Programs. With a variety of options from the One-Day Program to the Full-Time Competitive Program, the Lake Tahoe foundation has something for all ages and levels of skiers and riders. Registration packets are available online, at the HSSF building, or by calling the HSSF administration office. Those who register and pay in full now will receive the early registration pricing; prices increase $100 on November 1, 2011.
