SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With the Lake Tahoe Airport not having scheduled passenger service since 2001, and with a master plan last updated in 1992, it was time to create a new plan based on the needs of the area today, and in the future.

Opinion: Industrialization in South Lake Tahoe

There’s talk of expansion in South Lake Tahoe, but this town must be mindful of its beloved nature. However, it has the capability of evolving into a prosperous city through tactful ways of expanding and changing. The awareness of the League to Save Lake Tahoe, the city's plans for airport reconstruction, and the growing tourism industry in California show that expansion for South Lake Tahoe is beneficial, or at least manageable, for everyone.

A Design Guidelines Public Workshop will be hosted by the South Lake Tahoe Planning Commission on Thursday, January 21 in the City Council Chambers at the airport from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

City Council approves design for South Lake Tahoe Airport

Over the past three years, a new master plan for the South Lake Tahoe airport has been in the creation process, from the awarding of a $315,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2012 to community outreach to Tuesday's presentation on a final design plan.

Community meetings on Airport Master Plan wrap up; next stop is City Council

After years of planing and months of public input, the new Airport Master Plan for South Lake Tahoe was presented to the community on Tuesday. About a dozen people attended to see and hear what the final plan might look like.

Since buying the Tahoe Valley Airport from El Dorado County in 1983 for $1, the City of South Lake Tahoe has been supporting its operation which at one time saw almost 300,000 people a year pass through.

Final public hearing on Airport Master Plan held Tuesday

The City of South Lake Tahoe has announced a fourth and final public meeting about the newly released Airport Master Plan - Draft Phase 2 report on Tuesday, June 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. It will be held at the Lake Tahoe Airport.

The City initiated this Airport Master Plan Update in 2013, with funding support from the FAA, in order to determine the current and future potential of the Airport. The recommended development will be presented in three planning periods; short-term (2015 to 2019), intermediate term (2020 to 2024), and long-term (2025 to 2034).

South Lake Tahoe Airport Master Plan being reviewed in public meeting

With the recent release of the first phase of the South Lake Tahoe Airport Master Plan, a follow up public meeting is being held on March 16.

Community involvement is being requested so all issues can be addressed and solved with public input.

City closes out 2013/14 with positive cash flow of $910,000

"We have good news for the second year in a row," City Manager Nancy Kerry started with during her presentation Tuesday to the South Lake Tahoe City Council.

The budget for fiscal year 2013-14 closed out with a positive cash flow of $910,000. Kerry reported that a conservative fiscal philosophy and being budget conscious got the City through the recession. They have maintained a 25% reserve in the budget since 2005, a move that has allowed the City to be in the position to now grow the economy.

City of South Lake Tahoe Releases Public Comments on Airport Master Plan

Large Group Shows Up to Hear About South Lake Tahoe Airport Master Plan

They came to have their opinion heard. They came to call for the closure of the airport. They came to support the airport. They came to be a part of the South Lake Tahoe Airport Master Plan process.

An overflowing crowd showed up at the South Lake Tahoe City Council chambers Thursday night to hear about the process involved in preparing the upcoming plan for the future of the airport, why a new plan is needed and what it takes to replace the outdated 1992 Master Plan.

City of South Lake Tahoe Forming Airport Master Plan; Asks for Community Input

There was once a day when the South Lake Tahoe airport had ticket counters, daily flights coming and going, rental car counters and was the scene of a thriving transportation hub.
