South Tahoe High wrestler is tops in state for second straight year
Submitted by paula on Sat, 02/11/2017 - 9:13pmDuring all four years at South Tahoe High School, Andrew Herrera has made it to the Nevada State Wrestling Championships, and Saturday night he capped it off with his second consecutive first place finish.
Wresting at 195 lbs, Herrera beat Brennan Reese of Spring Creek for the second straight week. They met last week at the 3A Northern League Wrestling Championships with the same results as February 11, a win by the South Tahoe High senior.

Submitted by paula on Sat, 02/04/2017 - 7:34pmTruckee High School was the scene of this weekend's two-day 2017 NIAA 3A Northern League Wrestling Championships, with two South Tahoe High athletes moving onto the mats at the Nevada State Wrestling Championships at Spanish Springs High School in Sparks February 10-11.
South Tahoe High Vikings battle rival Truckee Friday night
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/21/2016 - 9:23amThe traditional Senior Game at South Tahoe High is on Friday, October 21 when the Vikings meet their rivals, the Truckee Wolverines. Both teams are tied for second place in Northern Nevada Division 3A with a 7-1 record. The Vikings are on a six-game winning streak in their quest to take over the first place spot from Spring Creek.
The final regular season game for Varsity is at 7:00 p.m. with the Junior Varsity teams taking the field first at 4:30 p.m.
Arrive early as the tribute to the seniors will be right before the Varsity game begins.

South Tahoe High's Andrew Herrera wins state wrestling championship
Submitted by paula on Sat, 02/20/2016 - 9:52pmAndrew Herrera, a South Tahoe High junior, is the state wrestling champion after he beat all opponents at 195 pounds during the Nevada State Division I-A Wrestling Tournament Saturday night in Primm, Nev.
Herrera beat Dai`jon Payno of Mojave High. Third place when to Sheldon Wilkinson of Spring Creek ad fourth to Cameron Cox of Faith Lutheran.
STHS Senior Michael Valney made it to the final mat but lost a close match to Peter Enos of Faith Luthern. The 135-pound wrestler wrapped up his high school wrestling career as #2 in the state.
South Lake Tahoe wrestler continues to add to trophy case

After playing football for the STHS varsity team on Friday night, Herrera headed to the Wild West Folkstyle wrestling tournament in Sacramento where he competed in their "pre-season showdown" on October 5.

On Saturday, June 6, Herrera took first place in the 192-pound division at the California USA Wrestling tournament in Fresno.
The young South Lake Tahoe wrestler took third in the 170 pound division during February's state tournament.

The 182 pound South Tahoe High sophomore won first in Greco, Freestyle and Folkstyle.
Herrera comes off a third place finish with the high school team.

Herrera, who wrestled at 170 lbs, beat Spring Creek's Masin Goodell during Saturday's final round to be the only wrestler from South Lake Tahoe to place.
Pahrump Valley won first place in the team category, followed by Lowry, Virgin Valley and Spring Creek. South Tahoe placed 15 in the state's team category.

Wrestling at 126 pounds, Junior Michael Valney beat Fernley's Dillon Maguin to bring home third place.
At the next weight class, 132 pounds, Senior James Sorenson also had a third place finish with his win over Lowry's Quint Bell.
